Astronaut Colour

The first EP from earlier this summer is one of my most listened to things in the last 6 months so I'm really looking forward to this new EP which if its anything like the first EP will be released this week for free.  Lets hope so the sample of music sounds amazing, something a little different for chino to put vocals over.

Best of the Web 2011

A compilation with some amazing HD footage.  I don't understand what some of this stuff is but together it is pretty damn fantastic.

Prometheus Trailer

Ridley Scott returns to the Aliens universe after over 30 years to direct a prequel to the original.  It will not feature the alien but something that the Xenomorph evolved from, a new alien to try our existance to their existance.  Really bizzare trailer and very intenseand frightning looking.  I will be looking forward to this a lot.

Islands: This is Not a Song

It didn't take Nick Thorburn very long to release a new album with Islands, having just finished touring with Mister Heavenly.  This song is really slow and dark for Islands but the band have sounded different one each of the three previous albums.  The new "This is Not a Song" is from the album A Sleep & A Forgetting and it comes out on Feb. 14, 2012.

Wrath of the Titans Trailer

I never saw the first movie after reading a few bad reviews but up until that point I was looking forward to a story of the Gods.  If they have a decent story this will be an amazing movie judging from this trailer.  It looks like it will be epic and the creature design is awesome so hopefully there is a good story to go with the amazing visuals.

Ron Paul on Jay Leno

This is a good interview with Leno and he is a lot more candid then in the debates.  It is an excellent summary of his campaign and ideals and couldn't have come at a better time as he is leading or a close two in the polls in Iowa.  Below is a commercial and highlights from the last debate.

Fail Compilation 2011

Year end lists and compilations like this make me like this time of year even more. After watching this I watched the best of 2010 and its amazing how many people try doing the same stupid things.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer

This looks absolutely insane. Bane is going to start a class war.

Early Green Goblin Make-up Test

This looks a hell of a lot better then what they ended up going with for the last set of Spider-man movies. Looks pretty close to how he should look.

Batman Back in China to visit Chen Guangcheng

Here is an article by CNN with more background on Chen Guangcheng and a video people telling of some of the people that have gone missing after trying to visit Chen Guangcheng.   This video Chen Guangcheng and his wife released while under house arrest that has brought attention from around the world to the story of this man and the constant Human Rights violations that occur under Chinese Government oppression. Christian Bale heard of this man and his story while filming The Flowers of War, which has been selected as the Chinese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at this years Academy Awards. The story look to deal with the same sort of human suffering and oppression while the Japanese invaded China in 1937.

Beck remixes Feist

How Come You Never Go There (Beck Remix) by Feist

Sleigh Bells new single Born to Lose

Tis the season...for Sleigh Bells.  Sounds loud like their first album but this track has a lot more layers to the sound and is not quite as loud.  This sounds like it should be a good thing because it still sounds like the same band that has gone through a few years of evolution.

Broke for Free

I don't know anything about this DJ(s?) except that there is this awesome song...

this free remix album...

and a whole lot of remixes and music on their Soundcloud page.  I haven't listened toall of this music yet but I've liked all the music that I have listened to so far.

Skateboarding in Japan

A minimalistic, 80s retro/futuristic skateboarding style that could only come out of Japan.  The music fits the strange, wonky tricks.

?uestlove: Going into way too much detail

Worked on this for another 4 or 5 hours and completed the right side of ?uests head.  I quickly added some colour so you can see the detail of this sucker.  I will hopefully be able to go over the face one last time tomorrow night and then the portrait will be done and I will post it.  Then I have to design the background which im looking forward too because I learned some new tricks on photoshop that I will mess around with.  Last night the Roots performed a few songs off their new album as well as a skit with Fallon about the albums recording session.

Going overboard on the detail on this one for sure but it will be worth it im sure.  I think I will take a break on this one and sketch a few different things out for the next few days.

Modest Mouse: Edit the Sad Parts

A little known song by Modest Mouse that is one of their best.  It comes from an early EP that has been out of print forever.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack

Once again Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are colaborating with director David Fincher on his newest movie, an adapation of the Swedish crime noir The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  The duo previously worked with Fincher on The Social Network which they won a best original score Oscar.  The soundtrack for this movie contains 3 hours of music and will be available in Mp3, deluxe CD, and a deluxe 6 LP vinyl box.  If you click on the album cover below it will take you to Null Corporation Records site where you can download a free 6 track album sampler.  Sounds like it will be a very haunting and dark set.

Here is a stream of the first track of the album, a cover of the Led Zeppelin classic Immigrant Song featuring Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs taking over vocal duties.

New Black Star album in 2012?

Sure looks that way.  Over the last few days Talib Qweli and Mos Def (now calling himself Yasiin Bey) have released two new singles that may or maynot end up on the album.  If this does end up happening, their second ablun together would come out nearly 15 years after theit classic debut.  The Fix Up is produced by Madlib and You Already Know was produced by Oh No, Madlib's labelmate and accomplished younger brother.

Slowmo Space Launch and the new NASA rover

This has some really spectacular shots from the last few launches of the recently retired shuttle program.

Today, November 26, NASA launched a new rover, Curiousity, to explore Mars.  The rover will land on the Red Planet sometime in August 2012 and is equiped with multiple HD cameras, which will give us our first clear images of the surface of another planet.  These images are from In Focus, as well as many others and details of Curiousity and its mission.

Questlove: Repaint

I saved over this one a few weeks ago and put it off to the side but I really want to do this picture because there will be a lot of different elements coming together on this and new tricks I learned on Photoshop that I'm looking forward to experimenting with.  Will hopefully colour this very soon.

Stanley Lau (Artgerm)

This guys work is really amazing his style is a combination of anime and comic illustration but his colouring and use of colour and light is what makes his work standout.  He is well know for his pinups and girls but he can draw males and monsters just as well.  Whether dynamic action or static poses all his figures come to life.  You can vist is Deviant Art account to see more images.

Colouring the Castle

Its been a while since I've put any of my own art up I have been working on getting some shirts and posters together, at the same time I have had to go out of town for work a few times, so the artwork has been slow.  I'm going to hopefully have those tshirts ready in a few weeks but more likely it will be longer if I have to go out of town again.

I spent all night making brick brushes for this one and then used a couple photos that I liked the colour to layout a starting point.  I think this one could take me a while but its going to be good.

Zomby: Labrinyth

A new track from UK producer Zomby from his forethcoming Nothing EP.  Sounds more like dancehall then any of his other tracks but almost everything this guy releases sounds different then the last.

Here are a few older tracks that I really like:

Ron Paul Educating the Public

Ron Paul saying exactly what is wrong with the system and his solutions, unique in politics.  He talks about his plan for medical in the US which I havent heard him go into detail about until now.

Quilt: Penobska Oakwalk

The singer sounds almost exactly the same as the guy from Tapes n' Tapes and the woman and the melodies sounds like Bodies of Water and the music is lo-fi, hazy, classic folk rock psychedelia.

National Geographic Photo Competition

National Geographic is holding a photo competition of the best reader submitted photographs or 2011. You can search through multiple galleries and even help out the judging by voting on National Geographic.com.  If you click on any of the images below you will be taken to a gallery by In Focus, of larger, high quality images, which is a good, quick summary of the many photos submitted for the contest.
